DAY 13
October 16, 2006

Marshall is once again without internet access and I am back in Logan to attend some classes. He started this morning in Salina with snow on the ground. Utah is a desert, and we really didn’t expect all this precipitation, but Marshall walks on.

A year ago, Marshall called me from Iraq to wish me a happy birthday and apologize for his absence. I felt a little sorry for myself because my husband was halfway across the world fighting for a cause I didn’t believe in. This morning when he called to wish me a happy birthday and apologize for his absence, I felt nothing but gratitude. This time, he is away fighting for a cause I very much believe in. I know this walk is helping him find inner peace for his involvement in the war and it is also helping to spark rational debate about a plan for withdrawal. There is no place I'd rather him be today than walking through the snow in central Utah.

Yesterday Marshall walked alone. He was appreciative of the chance to reflect on his quest for peace. Today, some Moab residents plan to join him, and Doug, the Vietnam Veteran from Oregon will once again walk alongside him. Doug has walked a good portion of the state and Marshall has been grateful for his companionship and support.

Marshall is now over halfway through the state of Utah and he will continue walking until November 1st. If you cannot cross the border with Marshall on his last day, please check in with our website to see how you can still be represented (find the Balloons for Peace page).

Thanks for your continued support and interest in Marshall’s walk,
Kristen
