Day 4
October 5, 2006
This was one of the longest days yet. I walked almost
11 hours today. I got another blister, a nice plump one
on my left big toe. Still, it was a great day. I was met
this morning in North Ogden by two Korean vets and their
wives. They said they wished people could understand how
wrong war is and how it’s only a last resort.
Several people joined us throughout the day and it was
touching to hear their stories and why they support peace.
One woman pulled off the road and gave us a donation and
a “military mother hug.” Her son has been to
Iraq twice and she doesn’t want him to go back a
third time. To her, and for many others, ending the war
is an urgent reality.
During the four days that I’ve been walking, several
people have taken the time to stop. All of them have been
in support of peace in Iraq. I’m overwhelmed by how
many people are yearning desperately for an end to this
war. I hope elected officials take note: even Utah wants
peace.
